“Dennis Monteiro”, or “Dennis Sinned” as he is also known, has already shown us through his various bands (“1983”, “Days Are Nights”, “As Cinzas do Tempo” just to name a few) that he is one of the most interesting minds within the alternative fauna of São Paulo (Brazil). His lyrics are modern allegories about the great urban centers, weaving poems that portray the fractured lives of the creatures that inhabit this gray jungle. His icy compositions are the perfect soundtrack for the city that never sleeps, where millions of people bump into each other every day but feel lonely in the crowd.
Now, “Dennis” finally presents the long awaited first album of his new solo project called “Dennis e o Cão da Meia-Noite” (Dennis and the Midnight Dog). Entitled “Id, Ego, Superego e Outras Porcarias” (Id, Ego, Superego and other Rubish) it comes out on “August 6th 2021” by the label “Paranoia Musique”.
In “Id, Ego, Superego e Outras Porcarias”, “Dennis” dives into his nightmares and makes a deep analysis of the human psyche. The well-known guitars of “Dennis”, which breathe in the same cadence as the post-punk heroes of the 70s and 80s, add to the imposing noise of the distortions of the shoegaze generation to bring all the aggressiveness of an individual who is tired of the fleetingness of personal relationships. A reverse ode to the vanity culture of social networks, where landmark events become commonplace in exchange for digital acceptance.
In his best work to date, “Dennis” also incorporates more experimental elements to his sound and flirts in some tracks with ska punk, coldwave and the darkest brazilian rock bands.
“Dennis” plays with Freud's ideas by stating that the songs reflect the tireless struggle of the Superego (represented by “Dennis”) with the ID and the Ego, marked by the figure of the “Dog of Midnight”. He himself has already revealed that this solo project came to him in a mystical revelation, where the figure of the “Midnight Dog” was present and needed to emerge from this universe of shadows... revealing a visceral and dangerous side that was unconscious until then. The dog is now on the loose and wants blood!
