Amidst the chaos in which our society finds itself, dominated by war, indecent governments and health crises, the “Cão da Meia-Noite” (Midnight Dog) reappears growling new ideas in the back of our minds.
After the release of “Id, Ego, Superego & Outras Porcarias”, the band's debut that was featured in several lists of best albuns of 2021 from sites such as “Scream & Yell” and “Urgesite” (just to name a few), “Dennis & o Cão da Meia-Noite” is back, bringing us a beautiful reinterpretation of an obscure classic by the band “Últimos Versos”, a cult group from the gothic rock scene in Brasília.
“Dennis Sinned” and his troupe inhabit the urban center of São Paulo (Brazil) and the group's sound breathes in the frequencies of 70’s & 80’s guitarists from the post-punk scene. And the noisy reverberations from the shoegaze & dreampop universe, which reminds us bands like “Jesus & Mary Chain” or “Cocteau Twins”, transport us to this ethereal forest, where the “Midnight Dog” is not always visible, but remains on the lookout.
The band knows how to maintain the hypnotic atmosphere of the original track and the ghostly saxophone reminds us why “Dennis & O Cão da Meia-Noite” is one of the heirs of that cult and alternative generation that lived in basements like “Madame Satã” or “Crepúsculo de Cubatão”.
